The ISSTDR 2011 Scientific Program Committee is proud to offer to the delegates an excellent and diversified scientific program addressing a wide range of current and pressing issues on sexually transmitted infections. The programme includes the participation of high profile scientists and practitioners from various fields.
For example, the keynote address at the opening ceremony will be presented by Dr. Paul DeLay, deputy executive director at UNAIDS. Prof. Max Essex, one of the most published specialists on retroviruses and Chair of the Harvard School of Public Health AIDS Initiative, will present a plenary session on the biological evolution of HIV-1C. The plenary sessions will address a range of topical issues on syphilis, trichomonas, STI/HIV prevention strategies, public health policy issues and other exciting, and sometimes controversial, themes. Several of the plenary sessions will include multiple speakers with debates.

There will also be 15 different symposia during the conference covering a wide variety of subjects, ranging from sampling methodologies for hard-to reach populations and program science to the use of STI rapid tests for better disease control, evaluation of large scale public health interventions and more clinical topics, such as women sexual health and HPV.

As usually at ISSTDR, the core of the program will consist of the parallel oral sessions (30, for a total of 180 oral presentations) and of over 600 posters based on the abstracts submitted by the delegates. Presentations at the conference will be made by people from all continents and will cover themes related to high income as well as low-middle income countries, and all population groups most concerned by STIs.

Given the high number of parallel sessions, the program also includes a session on the Summary and highlights of the conference on the Wednesday afternoon, prior to the closing ceremony. The highlights of each track will be presented by rapporteurs for the different tracks.

Finally, the scientific program will be completed by several satellite symposia organised by public partners on Sunday July 10 (
